Welcome to the second blog in the Death Row Inmates’ series. As mentioned in my last blog, DeathRowInmate.org and their founder Michael Flinner are good friends of the Prison Education Blog. Because I believe in their cause and appreciate all that they have done for prison education, I am posting three blogs for them to introduce their various projects to my readership. This is the second in that series. It is about The Papyrus Collective.
The Papyrus Collective’s information reads as follows:
“Papyrus Collective is an organized body of California Death Row Inmate writers and artists combining our individual interests, ideas, and talents from various genres of artistic and literary expression to assemble a collective of articles, commentaries, biographies, and other works and projects aimed at communicating informative messages and issues to the public – to the people – to promote social and political awareness, and action.
Our new public forum can be found at DeathRowInmate.org, a grassroots anti-death penalty social network. The Papyrus Collective forum is the face and voice representing today’s progressive-thinking prisoner. The Papyrus Collective is a platform open to our collective and contributing writers as an outlet through which to be vocal and visible, and provide an open line of communication. Family and friends of death row inmates,
DeathRowInmate.org members, and anti-death penalty advocates, people from academic and legal circles, journalists, and people who are interested in participating may post comments or questions on a number of topics and/or to any contributing writer.
You can also find our short-run periodical (zine) series, titled Write or Die. Look for the first in what will be a series of zines featuring a unique and creative anthology combining art, poetry, short stories, essays, fascinating facts, and experiences shared by our collective contributors. Find out more about out Write or Die project, other upcoming publications, and work of independent authors, and how to get your free copy of Write or Die. Simply check for the title in the Papyrus Collective forum menu for more information.
This is a new and emerging era of organizing and communicating. Educating and organizing – building alliances with online social networks and community organizations – is part of our agenda. We welcome your support in aiding our efforts from the outside, as well as those of you whose cooperation helps us to better realize and fulfill our vision and potential.”
