Background
Federal Correctional Institution El Reno is a medium-security federal prison in El Reno, Oklahoma. It opened in 1933 and houses male inmates. The facility was previously known as a federal reformatory.
Federal Correctional Institution El Reno Camp also houses male inmates. This federal prison camp opened in 1980 and is located adjacent to the central institution.
El Reno federal prison is in the Fort Reno Military Reserve. Until the 1970s, it housed younger prisoners aged 18 to 26. The prison then opened to all age groups. It is under the purview of the United States Department of Justice.
President Barack Obama visited El Reno prison in July 2015, making him the first sitting U.S. president ever to visit a federal prison.
Media reports indicate that at least one guard has sexually assaulted an inmate at the prison.

Inmates live in two- and three-person cells. Inmates at El Reno Prison camp live in dormitories divided into two- and four-person cubicles.

UNICOR
The prison’s UNICOR facility handles metal fabrication and welding. The El Reno prison camp does not house a UNICOR facility.
Commissary
Inmates at El Reno, Oklahoma prison, are permitted to spend up to $360.00 per month in commissary purchases on their designated shopping days. This is further restricted to $180 every two weeks.
Items such as food, drinks, clothing, and electronics can be purchased. Inmates are allowed to shop twice a week. Sales are conducted Monday through Thursday at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

In January 2018, former Arkansas State Senator Jake Files reported to Federal Correctional Institution El Reno, Oklahoma, federal prison to begin his 18-month sentence for fraud and money laundering.
In January 2017, Amanda Hock, a guard at FCI El Reno, was sentenced to probation and community service for sexual conduct with a male prisoner in December 2015.
