FCI Williamsburg is located in the town of Salters, 90 miles southeast of Columbia, the state capital.

Media reports indicate that at least three inmates have escaped from the camp.

Inmate Housing

Inmates are housed in two- and three-person cells. In the camp, they are housed in dormitories.

Health Services

Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg SC and the satellite camp provide sick calls, clinical and dental care, physical exams, chronic care, emergency medical care, and pharmacy services. Eyeglasses and hearing aids are available when clinically indicated. Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day. Sick call is held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:00 a.m. Both medical and dental concerns are addressed at this time.

Psychology Services

FCI Williamsburg offers intake exams, psycho-educational classes such as Anger and Stress Management, and a focus on sexual abuse/assault prevention and intervention. Additional programs include Smoking Sensation, People in Prison Entering Sobriety, self-image groups, and other voluntary groups. A self-help library and relaxation CDs are also available.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)

Williamsburg federal prison does not have the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). A Drug Education class, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DP), Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are available.

Education Services

FCI Williamsburg offers GED and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Social education, life skills, parenting, Adult Continuing Education (ACE), and career counseling/release preparation programs are also available. High school diplomas and post-secondary degrees are available through paid correspondence programs.

Advanced Occupational Education

Williamsburg Prison advanced occupational education programs include Culinary Arts, NCCER Core, Residential Carpentry, and ServSafe.

Vocational Training

There is no vocational training at FCI Williamsburg aside from the advanced occupational education and apprenticeship programs.

Apprenticeship

FCI Williamsburg Prison offers apprenticeships in Custodial Maintenance, HVAC, and Plumbing.

Library Services

The leisure library offers reference books, magazines, newspapers, music CDs, and DVD movies for checkout only. Fiction and nonfiction books can be checked out for two weeks at a time. The South Carolina State Library System offers an Interlibrary Loan program. A law library is available, where inmates may use the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library, typewriters, and a copy machine.

UNICOR

FCI Williamsburg does not house a UNICOR facility.

Commissary

Inmates can spend a maximum of $360.00 per month on items such as food, beverages, radios, MP3 players, clothing, and more. All inmates must have their Inmate Account card for all Trust Fund Sales Unit transactions. Copy cards, postage stamps, and over-the-counter medications do not count against this spending limit. Sales hours are posted by memorandum for FCI Williamsburg and the camp in the housing units. Sales are conducted Monday through Wednesday.

Prison Politics at Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg

This is not a political yard. No car requirement. One respondent said, “There are no real political problems here; everyone generally gets along.”

Level of Violence

There is a minimal level of violence. One inmate said, “There is very little fighting. Not much violence to speak of at all.” Another inmate agreed, stating, “Ain’t no violence here.”

Vulnerable Populations

Sex offenders, informants, and LGBT inmates can walk the yard. One respondent said, “All of these groups are here on the yard.”

“Quality and quantity of food, respectful staff, no politics, and clean.” “Laid back staff.” “This is a laid-back spot.”

FCI Williamsburg in the News

In July 2021, former Williamsburg federal prison medical contractor Tanganita Dawkins was indicted for bribery and the introduction of contraband. He allegedly smuggled cell phones and tobacco to an inmate at the facility.

In February 2016, inmate Enrique Lombrana-Perez was charged with assaulting a prison guard. After refusing to change cells, he struck an FCI Williamsburg guard in the face.

FCI Williamsburg Camp in the News

In May 2017, three prisoners at Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg Camp were discovered missing at 6:30 p.m. before they returned at 8:00 p.m.

In January 2013, former Pennsylvania State Senator Robert J. Mellow reported to FCI Williamsburg Camp to begin his 16-month sentence for utilizing senate staff to perform campaign work.
