Background: CI D. Ray James is a private prison. In January 2010, the D. Ray James Correctional Facility was awarded a contract to house adult males sentenced by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and is now owned and operated by The GEO Group, Inc. The current facility delivers all levels of services providing an environment for prisoners working their way through the judicial system.

Housing: Inmates are housed in dormitories.

Health Services: CI D. Ray James inmates are initially provided with an intake examination. Routine and emergency health care and dental care are also available to the inmate population. While emergency care is available 24 hours a day, inmates must submit a sick call form in order to be evaluated for routine or chronic health care concerns.

Psychology Services: CI D. Ray James offers correctional mental health care. Services include counseling and programs created to have a rehabilitative impact. A Living in Balance program is also offered. Inmates are provided with access to a variety of behavioral treatment groups. These include stress management, anger management, life skills training, parenting techniques, conflict resolution, and preparation for re-entry into society.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): CI D. Ray James does not house a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). Some Geo Group facilities offer RDAP as well as addiction programs including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Additional substance abuse programming is offered.

Education Services: CI D. Ray James provides Pre-GED, GED, literacy training, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), and Special Education programs for the inmate population. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs. Inmates are also provided with life skills classes to enhance parenting skills.

Advanced Occupational Education: CI D. Ray James offers advanced occupational education in smart board technology, customized learning through individual education plans, dynamic grouping, and technology-based learning.

Vocational Training: CI D. Ray James offers vocational training in Custodial Maintenance, Barbering, Horticulture, Electrical, Building Trades, Auto Mechanics, Upholstery, Weaving, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Small Engine Repair, Masonry, Plumbing, Culinary Arts, Computer Repair, Carpentry, and Welding.

Apprenticeship: CI D. Ray James does not offer any apprenticeship programs to inmates.

Library Services: A law and leisure library are available for inmate use at CI D. Ray James. Inmates can check out fiction and nonfiction books, newspapers, and magazines. In the law library, inmates can conduct legal research and prepare legal filings.

UNICOR: CI D. Ray James does not house a UNICOR facility.

Commissary: Inmates are allowed to shop in the institutions’ commissary once a week. Items such as clothing, shoes, food, snacks, electronics, and drink mixes are available for purchase.

Recreational Services: CI D. Jay James provides both indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities to the inmate population. Inmates are allowed to exercise, play sports, create art, and engage in various craft projects.
